The Lookouts gave up six runs in the second inning on Monday Night and were never able to claw their way back into the game, ultimately dropping the series opener to the Smokies 9-4.
Kevin Abel collected the loss for the Lookouts with a line he would like to forget of five hits and seven runs in just an inning and two thirds. Two his credit, only two of the runs were earned as the defense faltered behind him. The Lookouts committed three errors in the game.
Offensively Chattanooga managed six hits, highlighted by a homerun by Francisco Urbaez, his sixth on the season.
The loss drops the Lookouts to a league worst 31-70 on the season. They return to action against the Smokies in hopes of evening the series on Tuesday night.
