Gene Woods Lindauere of Ringgold, Georgia, saw his Lord and Savior face to face on September 3, 2024, surrounded by family members at his home.

Gene, known as Bud to family and friends, was born in Homestead, Pa., on Aug. 30, 1927, to Woods and Myrtle Lindauere. He met the love of his life, Betty, 75 years ago at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Their love for each other and passion for music made for a beautiful life together; he with his violin and she with her piano.

Gene received his master’s degree in Music Education in 1958. His career spanned years of teaching, both privately and in the public schools, the joys of playing a musical instrument from Washington state to New Jersey, to Ohio to Maryland to Georgia. He played in churches, and also for the American Light Opera Company in Washington D.C. from 1961 - 63. Upon retiring from teaching music in the Montgomery County School system in Maryland, he and his wife moved to Ringgold, Georgia where he continued to teach violin privately. He and his wife founded the L’Abri Symphony Orchestra in 1992 in Dalton, Ga. The L’Abri orchestra is still performing and allowing students the opportunity to play in a real symphonic setting. He played viola in the L’Abrio quartet and played cello in Cello Primo, a septet of cellos. In his last years, dementia robbed him of his ability to play or teach.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Woods and Myrtle Lindauere and a brother, Robert.

Those left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife, Betty, of 72 years; daughter, Dee (Russ) Grier of Rossville; son, Randy (Sue) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; daughter, Denise (Brian) Jansen of Bluffton, S.C.; daughter, Dayna (Ed) Buswell of Denton, Md.; daughter, Debbi (Mark) Hottel of Mt. Airy, Md.; 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends, students and church family.

The family extends a special thank you to Hearth Hospice of Ft. Oglethorpe for their compassionate care.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, at Wilson Funeral Home, 555 West Cloud Springs Road, Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga. 30742.

Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Monday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m., with a Celebration of Life service to follow at First Baptist Church, Dalton, Ga. at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001 or https://alzfdn.org and / or Kinsey Drive Baptist Church, 2626 Kinsey Drive SW, Dalton, Ga. 30720.

Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.wilsonfuneralhome.com.
