2,000 Bikes And Still Rolling

  • Friday, February 7, 2025

White Oak Bicycle Co-Op, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing public health, facilitating access to bicycles, improving alternative transportation, and promoting bicycle safety throughout the region, announces a milestone for the organization and the community.

From humble beginnings in August 2020, working out of a garage and hosting repair clinics in public parks, Andrew Jones, Blake Pierce and Christian Gonzalez set out to address transportation and public health in the community. Today, White Oak Bicycle Co-op announced the distribution of its 2,000th bicycle.

Speaking from the 7,000-square-foot shop in Red Bank, Mr. Pierce, CEO, said, “It has been an amazing journey. We have been fortunate to gain support from dedicated volunteers, community partner agencies and donors, all of whom make this possible.”

"We have stayed true to our original mission and continue to focus on our mission,” said Mr. Jones, Board President.

White Oak distributed a record 769 bikes in 2024. Every bike used in the community transforms lives, from children getting their first bike to new members of the workforce using it to get to work. In November, the organization celebrated the opening of the Bike Box in collaboration with iFixit. The distribution facility affords community partners immediate bike access to support their clients.

“The success of the Bike Box was immediate: White Oak's straightforward approach to serving the community is really working. iFixit is proud to support White Oak and its mission,” said Kyle Wiens, CEO of iFixit, the online repair guide and parts store that recently opened a flagship distribution center on 12th Street.

Anyone with a bike they want to donate can drop off the bike at any of the 12 collection sites from Signal Mountain to East Ridge. www.whiteoakbicycle.org
