Tiaan Vosloo, a Ooltewah High School freshman, won the National Championship Title in the 60 meter hurdles at the Adidas National Indoor Track and Field Championships freshman elite category. The Adidas Track Nationals was held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center this past weekend.
Mr. Vosloo, a football and track athlete at Ooltewah, joined Topp-Speed Track Club in Chattanooga and began training for the Indoor season. His continued improvement at each competition gave him his own personal record and National Championship title in the Indoor 60 meter hurdle event.
He also finished fourth place overall in the 200m sprint earning 2-time All American.
Officials said, "The story is impressive as his sister was equally successful. A junior at Ooltewah High school, Anria Vosloo worked her way to the finals at Adidas Track National to place fourth overall and also a PR. They both will continue to improve their marks during the outdoor season.
"The Vosloos just moved to Chattanooga late summer 2024 from South Africa. In a short amount of time, they are already making their mark here and representing Chattanooga.
"They are a family of track athletes, as their parents were national medalists as well while in South Africa.
"Topp-Speed Track Club is coached by a group of Chattanooga police officers who have had collegiate level experience in the sport.
"Giving back to these young athletes is what we strive to do and assist them in obtaining their goals as they pursue hopes for college education through the great sport of Track and Field. I believe they deserve the recognition of their accomplishments as I hope you do as well.
"Additionally, we had eight athletes qualify for National competitions, while five of them were able to attend. Kennedi Winbush, CSLA student, attended Nike Nationals, while the Vosloos, along with Mathew Murphy, of Hixson High School and Lesley Burton of Boyd Buchanan High School, attended Adidas track nationals.
