Harold Jerome “Jerry” Underhill
Harold Jerome “Jerry” Underhill, 88, of Ringgold, Georgia passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on May 11,1936, in Chattanooga, to the late Henry Leighmon Underhill and Corda Reeves Underhill. He lived most of his life in Rossville, and graduated from Rossville High School Class of 1955. He was an active member of New Haven Baptist Church and served as the church publisher, audio video technician, maintenance manager and went on seven mission trips to Mexico. Jerry was a route salesman all of his working life starting with Stewarts Potato Chips in 1955, retired from Wilkinson Sales before starting his own business, US Sales, in 1980 until his official retirement. He was a member of the Alhambra Shriners and Jerry was a 32nd degree Shriner. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan, enjoyed computers, loved his church and his family with all of his heart. His family stated, “we could not have asked for a better husband and father.”
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Michael “Mike” Underhill.
Those left to cherish Jerry’s memory are his loving wife of seventy years, Betty Jean Gravitt Underhill; daughters, Velda Underhill Wallace (Bobby), Diana Underhill Carden (Charles), son, Joe Underhill (Carla), cherished sister-in-law, Charlotte Newsom; ten grandchildren, Shane Posey, Brad Posey, Denise Godschalx, Philip Wallace, Laura Tripp, Brooke Horton, James Freeman, Shaun Underhill, Chasity Layne, Brittany Stoker, and Meagan Chu; fourteen great grandchildren, eight great- great grandchildren, many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and church family.
The family will receive friends from 4–8 p.m. on Monday, April 14, and Tuesday from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, in the funeral home chapel with Brother Bill Broom, Pastor Trey Holland and Pastor Robert Schrader officiating. Shaun Underhill, Tanner Marler, Landon Marler, Brad Posey, Caden Posey and T.J. Newsom will serve as pallbearers.
Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens South.
