The homestanding University of West Alabama softball used two big innings to beat the Lee University squad on Friday evening. UWA scored one in the first inning, four in the second inning, and three in the sixth inning to beat the Lady Flames 8-0. The loss dropped the Lady Flames to 22-23 overall and 9-18 in GSC play.
The Lady Flames will take on the Tigers in a doubleheader beginning at 2 PM on Saturday.
UWA took the lead in the first quarter. The Tigers used two singles and two walks to bring in the first run of the game.
UWA then used a grand slam in the bottom of the second by Marissa Mitchell to go up 5-0. A walk, error, and single loaded the bases for UWA before Mitchell hit her team leading 13th home run of the season.
The sixth inning saw the Tigers use a single double and two errors to bring in three runs and end the game in just six innings.
Lee only had four hits in the loss with Alexa Scalzo, Hayden Gardner, Alyson Jarvi, and Bella Galloway collecting the hits.
Natalie Pruitt-Geesey took the loss for Lee. She went the complete game throw five and two-thirds innings. She gave up seven hits and four walks. She had three strikeouts and gave up eight runs with only five being earned.
