U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Held Long Career With U.S. Postal Service

James Perry Davis, 92, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

Perry was a native of Chattanooga, born on June 29, 1932. He was a graduate of Central High School. Perry served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was recipient of the Silver Star and Purple Heart. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over 40 years and retired as supervisor for the Shallowford Road General Mailing Facility. Perry was a former member of Sale Creek Church of God, and most recently attended Lupton Drive Baptist Church.

Perry was preceded in death by his parents, Ollen Willie Davis and Mamie Lamb Davis; stepmother, Edith Walker Davis; as well as his brothers, Bill Davis and Richard Davis and sisters, Naomi Trimmer and Dot Spence.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Iva Joyce Davis; son, Edward Michael Davis (Stanley); daughter, Perri Anne Davis; son, Bryan Mitchell Davis (Sherri); three grandchildren, Kailey Long (Matt), Aubrey Queen (Andy), and Emma Davis; and 5 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, at Chattanooga Funeral North Chapel, Hixson. There will be a graveside service with military honors at Chattanooga Memorial Park on Monday, May 19, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Roger L. DeHart officiating.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Mark and the entire staff at Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veterans Home in Knoxville for the excellent care provided.
