DDG Is Difference Maker As Tennessee's Top Team Holds Off Georgia's #7 At Baylor

David Gabriel-Georges was the difference maker as Tennessee's top team held off Georgia's #7 at Baylor on Friday night.

Gabriel-George rushed for four touchdowns in a game that went down to the wire and ended 35-34 in favor of the Red Raiders over Rabun Gap.

In the see-saw battle it came down to Baylor knocking at the door down by six points with only a couple of minutes left.

Facing a fourth and 12, with the goal line the distance to reach, Baylor benefitted from two pass interference calls to move it to a fourth and six and then a fourth and three. The latter distance was no problem for Gabriel-Georges to ram it across, giving the Red Raiders a one-point lead.

The Eagles, who kept coming back throughout the contest, ended up with a long fourth down situation and made the surprising decision to punt with only a minute and a half left. The punt was a short one, and Baylor ran out the clock to come on top in the squeaker.

The reason it was a one-point advantage was because on Rabun Gap's final touchdown there was a penalty for 12 men in the huddle on the extra point try. With the longer distance, the kicker missed to trim the Eagles' lead to 34-28.

It was on the third play of the game that Gabriel-Georges ran for 30 yards and a Baylor score.

The visitors, who last week almost knocked off Grayson, the state's top team, scored on a 13-play drive to even the score.

DGG, a Canada product who is considering a number of major college offers, scampered for 63 yards to put the Red Raiders back ahead. Rabun Gap quickly tied it again.

Baylor went into the locker room ahead, while scoring with no time left on the clock as Briggs Cherry found the lanky Braxton Rein in the right side of the end zone.

Rabun Gap's talented quarterback, Gavin Owens, evened the score again, leading a drive that ended with a fake and an untouched score to make it 21-21.

Then Rabun Gap's Joshua Buckhalter had a big punt return to again put the Eagles up - this time at 28-21.

The visitors had the ball again when Baylor's Maxym Sargoniako grabbed the game's only pass interception. DGG then had his third rushing touchdown to even the score at 28-28.

Rabun Gap scored once more on the drive that ended with the missed extra point, leading to Baylor's late-game heroics.
