Park Place is located at 2891 LaFayette Road in Fort Oglethorpe. I always enjoy driving out to Fort Oglethorpe and seeing the vast changes that have taken place since I grew up there. So many things have changed - in fact I would be hard pressed to remember any restaurants out there during those years - other than the Mello Kreme walk-up ice cream place.
We have been to Park Place several times in the past and this visit was not as good as our first review or any other visits. To say the least, we were very surprised at our service. Our server, who did not give us her name, showed us to our table and asked for our drink orders. Wayne only drinks diet drinks so he ordered his usual Diet Coke. Well, they were out. He asked what else they had in diet and the answer was "water." I could see we
were going to be doing downhill with her (our server).
After looking over the menu, the two specials of Hand-Pulled Pork and
Salisbury Steak, Wayne was not tempted so he ordered grilled pork chops (from the regular menu) with creamed potatoes and fried corn. I ordered the Hand-Pulled Pork with rice and gravy and fried corn. We both enjoyed the fried corn, which was very good. The pork I ordered was good, just dry, but they did give me a pill cup of sauce to help
Wayne's pork chops were very tough and the steak knife they brought him must have been extremely dull because it wouldn't cut them. He asked me how long the restaurant had been there and when I replied I didn't know, but why? - he said the knife must have come with the place it was so dull. He also said the potatoes were extremely starchy.
When we first sat down we heard our server telling another couple they had
Blackberry Cobbler for dessert. That sounded good to us since we both enjoy
Blackberry Cobbler - especially since it was homemade. We were attending a
show at 7:30 at the new Colonnade complex and by the time we waited for our food and ate, it was already 7:10 - we would just have time to make it to the complex so no dessert for us. We had to wait 31 minutes to get our plates. No one mentioned it was going to take extra time for anything we ordered, although we did notice people who came in quite a bit after us, getting their food before us.
Someone from the kitchen served our food and our server came over right
after we got it and asked if we needed anything. At that point we did not.I assume she took that to mean we would not be needing anything the rest of the evening as she did not come back to see that I had run out of tea. However, at the end of the meal, after my food was gone, she came by and refilled my sweet tea glass with unsweetened tea. That was a real treat on the first swallow!
Park Place does have a good menu and we haven't had problems before. Wayne
has decided that due to the way our server seemed to work around us most of the time, maybe she had problems in the kitchen also and they might not have been in a hurry to get her orders out.
Hours are 10:45 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. They are now
open for lunch on Sunday.
And remember - if you know anyone who eats out a lot we have the perfect
gift for them or even for yourself. The new Adventures coupon books are now in with even more coupons - 86 in all. These are perfect gifts for
weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and many other occasions. By using our Adventures book during 2001, Wayne and I have saved over $420 that would have been spent out of our own pockets - and we still have coupons that haven't been used. To make shopping easier for you, we now have credit card capability on the Chattanooga Dine Out site. We ship the same day you order (unless it's Sunday) so your books should be received within approximately three days.
