Final preparations are being made for the April 3 opening of downtown Chattanooga’s newest restaurant, The Blue Plate. “The Blue Plate is a contemporary diner that serves comfort food from scratch,” said owner Rob Gentry.
With a view of the riverfront, The Blue Plate is located in the River Pier Landing Building under the new condominiums. The Blue Plate was designed by Roddy Creedon of San Francisco, who has designed 50 restaurants. The atmosphere with its “smart” and “contemporary” design is “nothing like anything else in Chattanooga,” said Mr. Gentry. The restaurant will have 140 inside seats and 40 patio seats.
The menu is “family friendly” and offers dishes made from scratch that you eat at home such as maccaroni and cheese, turkey tetrazinni and meatloaf. The Blue Plate will also offer a “to-go program” with both hot and cold foods. The bakery display unit will give customers the opportunity to buy pre-made sandwiches and salads.
The Blue Plate bar will offer a widerrange of beer, liquor and wine.
Mr. Gentry started Big River Grille with Tim Hennen, but he left a year ago to “spend time on a new project,” The Blue Plate.
The Blue Plate will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to midnight on weekends. For information go to
