Anthony "Tony" Lombardo, 84, of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008.

He was born July 22, 1924 to the late Joe and Celestina Lombardo in Wilkes Barre, Pa.

He was an underwriter with Provident Insurance for over 35 years, was a member and Communicant at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, a proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II, an avid golfer and longtime Marshall at Valley Brook Golf and Country Club, coached Knothole baseball at OLPH and ladies softball at Provident, was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, a graduate of Notre Dame High School and the University of Chattanooga.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joe Lombardo.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Lombardo, of Chattanooga; daughter, Betsy Sipe, of Harrison; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Amy Lombardo, of Apison, Tn., and Anthony and Crystal Lombardo Jr., of Shelby, N.C.; four grandchildren and spouse, John Sipe, Sarah and Stephen Epperson, Lindsay and A.J. Lombardo; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Sipe and Maddox Epperson; niece, Laurie Sawyer; and nephew, Joe Lombardo.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. in the Holy Family Hall at OLPH prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to OLPH Music Fund, Hospice of Chattanooga, Alzheimers Association, and the Hamilton County Humane Education Society.
