During the holidays we had out-of-town guests so we decided to take them to the Station House located in the Chattanooga Choo Choo complex. The grounds certainly looked beautiful in their holiday splendor with all the flame lanterns burning in the evening darkness.

We made advance reservations and had good luck in that we were seated immediately upon arrival. We had a great table right in front of the stage on a slightly elevated area (under the stairway).

Some of those singing servers are really fantastic! They offer all types of music from country to the sixties to current songs.

The meal begins with the All-You-Can-Eat Shrimp & Salad Bar. The offerings on the bar are the usual fare of lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, eggs, beets, and what you might find on most every salad bar, although I didn’t find spinach. The shrimp is peel-n-eat.

The menu lists four appetizers: Mozzarella Cheese Sticks, Fish & Chips, Choo Choo Corn Fritters, and Buffalo-Style Chicken Wings (priced from $4.95 to $6.95). With the plentiful salad bar, we opted to not have an appetizer.

After looking over the menu, everyone quickly decided what they wanted – that is everyone except for me. I couldn’t decide. Some of the choices included barbecued baby back ribs ($15.95), rib eye ($23.95), Gulf coast jumbo shrimp ($16.95) and grilled chicken forestiere ($13.95).

Everyone at the table chose the roast prime rib of beef ($18.50), while I selected the double-cut pork chop ($14.95). From the choice of sides, we all ordered the baked Idaho potato. Other side selections are sautéed mushrooms, steak fries, market fresh vegetables, rice pilaf and red beans and rice.

They all agreed the prime rib was terrific (weight was not listed). Wayne said it was right up there with the best he has eaten; slow roasted and extremely tender. They even have a junior prime rib on the children’s menu ($7.50).

The pork chop is a 10-ounce, center cut glazed with a zesty bourbon sauce. It, too, was quite tender. I would order it again.

We decided not to have dessert as our group had plans for later in the evening. Desserts listed included peanut butter pie and an amaretto biscotti torte (prices from $2.50 to $5.50).

The Station House provides for a very enjoyable evening. Hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 11 p/m. It is closed on Sunday and Monday.
