Iskander, Karim Naguib

Karim Naguib Iskander, M.D., 65, of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, in the presence of his family at the Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, Ca.

He was born in Helwan, Cairo, Egypt on Oct. 26, 1943, and was raised by his loving parents, Naguib and Hekmat Iskander in Egypt. On June 21, 1975, Karim married Karen Reardon in Chattanooga.

Karim earned his medical degree with honors from the University of Cairo and moved to Chattanooga, to complete his residence training at Erlanger hospital. Karim proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1977 and established a private Obstetrics and Gynecology practice in Rossville, and Chattanooga. During his 35 years in practice, Karim delivered numerous new babies and helped thousands of patients.

His love for obstetrical and gynecological medicine and surgery was evident in the countless lives he touched. Karim was a loving husband, father, friend, physician, role model and inspiration throughout his life.

He was a member of River of Life Church, Rossville, the American Medical Association and various other Medical Society and Organizations.

He was preceded in death by his father, Naguib Youssef Iskander; and his father-in-law, Lester Daniel Reardon.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Reardon Iskander; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kristina Iskander Pike and husband, Cory Pike, of Torrance, Ca., Kendra Iskander Kurylo, M.D. and husband, John Kurylo, M.D., of Boston, Ma., Kellie Iskander and Danny Norton, Chattanooga; mother, Hekmat Iskander, Santa Monica, Ca.; mother-in-law, Inez Reardon, Chattanooga; brother, Raef Iskander, M.D., Glendale, Calif.; sisters, Sanaa Nikiforidis, Viena, Austria and Nardine Iskander-Martinez, Riverside, Ca.; uncle, Shawki Michael Ishak, M.D., Rolling Hills, Ca.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Alan Crider officiating.
Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5-8:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1-2 p.m. on Sunday at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road.
