Football Standout In College Was Navy Veteran

Edward Nobles, 85, of East Ridge, died on Friday, February 15, 2013.

Mr. Nobles was born in Richard City, Tn., to C.E. and Laura Nobles.  He was a graduate of Central High School where he was a star running back nicknamed “Racehorse Nobles”.  He earned a football scholarship to the University of Chattanooga and was a U.S. Navy and Korean War veteran.  Ed retired as a salesman from the Chattanooga Times Free Press.  He enjoyed golfing after his retirement and was of the Methodist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Hale Nobles; his parents; brothers, Bill, Clarence, Jewell and Howard; and sisters, Betty, Evelyn and Catherine.

Surviving are his children, Bill Nobles, Greg (Piengchai) Nobles; Cyndi Nobles and Jess (Renee) Nobles; granddaughter, Heather Smartt; grandson, Brandon (Brandy) Nobles; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, at the funeral home. 

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association, 4825 Trousdale Dr., Suite 220, Nashville, Tn. 37220.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 404 S. Moore Road, East Ridge, Tn. 37412.
