The owner of the Boathouse Restaurant has bought the VFW American Legion Post 4848 property next door for $1.5 million.
Alan Syler, Post Commander, said the unit is in search of either a lot to build a new post or an existing building to convert to a post.
He said the deal includes all three lots owned by the post as well as its headquarters with 6,638 square feet.
Commander Syler said the Boathouse currently owns only about a foot of property in the direction of the VFW so it has been renting parking space.
He said when the VFW has dances on Saturday night there sometimes have been "a little issue" about Boathouse customers parking in VFW spots.
The post was constructed in 1958, according to the deed.
It was named in honor of Wilkes T. Thrasher.
The property is at 1491 Riverside Dr.
Commander Syler said the post has 560 members, but "very few are active members."
Lawton Haygood is the Boathouse owner.
The sale was to L&M Partners.
