Botanical Garden Proposed On 65 Acres In Lookout Valley

  • Monday, May 2, 2016

A botanical garden is being planned on 65 acres of a 96-acre tract in Lookout Valley.

Members of the Coleman family are planning the new Chattanooga attraction at Wilcox Road, just off of Cummings Highway not far from the Marion County line.

The property is owned by Roy Coleman and the applicant for rezoning is Rebecca Coleman.

The site plan calls for a 2,500-square-foot visitor center, a rose garden, a children's garden, a Japanese garden, a natives garden, a Victorian greenhouse with 3,000 square feet, two smaller greenhouses, an event lawn, restrooms and wooded trails.

There would be a parking lot with 50 spaces and a section for overflow parking.

The headwaters of Black Creek run through the property.

The project will be discussed at a meeting of the Planning Commission next Monday at 1 p.m. at the County Courthouse.

The staff recommendation is to defer.
