He remained involved with T.C. Thompson’s Children’s Hospital Foundation for many years afterward. He loved golf and hunting.

In earlier years he wrote an outdoor sports column for the Chattanooga Times, once winning Tennessee Outdoor Sportswriter of the Year. His stories of the Old Winged Critter Shooter taking the Little Winged Critter Shooter, his son, hunting not only showcased our area’s excellent hunting but also brought to life the wonderful hunting culture many people from our area enjoyed growing up.
