An organizing group, including former Chattanooga bank executives and business and community leaders, announced Thursday that they have filed an application with the Office of Comptroller of the Currency and the FDIC to charter a new local bank in Chattanooga. The proposed name is RockPoint Bank, National Association.
According to RockPoint Bank’s proposed President and CEO Hamp Johnston, the group anticipates a summer 2020 opening, pending regulatory approvals. “We are excited about starting a bank that is headquartered in Chattanooga and is focused on our community," Mr. Johnston said.
Bill Kilbride, organizer and proposed board member, said, “I am enjoying working with this energetic and experienced team, and excited about the opportunity the bank has to make our community economically stronger.”
Mr. Johnston said, “We chose RockPoint because of its connection to our city. The name Chattanooga is believed to be derived from a Creek Indian word meaning ‘rock rising to a point.’ It depicts the rocky, mountainous terrain that defines our area.”
Camille Daniel, proposed chief lending officer, added, “We see a need for a locally owned and managed bank that utilizes innovative technology.”
