David Lamar Benford, 62, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019, at his residence. 

He was a 1976 graduate of Howard High School. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.  

David was preceded in death by his father, Sam Benford; stepfather, Walter Freeman; brothers, Harold Benford. Melvin Benford, and Michael Benford; sister, Olivia Benford; grandchildren, LaQuojah Beck and Atwan Beck; aunt, Lottie Oliver; uncles, Robert Branch and Clarried Smith; nephews, Dennis Freeman and Alex Freeman.  

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Ivalene Benford; daughter, Nakia (Travis) Pittman and Melicha Beck; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; mother, Juliette Freeman, all of Chattanooga; brothers, Nathan (Rene) Benford, Norman Freeman, Victor (Melissa) Freeman, Guy Wilkerson, Walter (Hilda) Freeman, Ronnie Readus, all of Chattanooga, and Gregory (Gwendolyn) Pittmon of Ontario, CA; sisters, Emma Benford, Sandra Benford, Lois (Kenneth) Martin, and Betty Freeman, all of Chattanooga; aunts, Norma Hughley and Lena Word, both of Chattanooga; a host of nephews, nieces; cousins; other relatives and friends.

He will lie in state on Saturday, July 20, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with the funeral service 1 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Steve Underwood as the eulogist.
