SRO Arrests Student At Hixson High With Loaded Weapon

  • Thursday, September 12, 2019

A school resource officer at Hixson High School received a tip Thursday morning that a student at the school may be in possession of a weapon.

Upon receiving the tip, the SRO immediately worked with school administrators and located the student. A search was conducted and a loaded handgun was found in his possession.

Officials said the student may have been involved in an incident in the community outside the regular school day and the incident may have involved a weapon.

The SRO transported the student to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center where he was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds.

Officials with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office said they want to reassure the public that its personnel work diligently each day with the Hamilton County Department of Education to ensure a safe, learning environment for students.

As this incident involves a juvenile, no further details are available at this time.
