An official of the Boston Business Improvement District has been chosen to be executive director of the new Chattanooga BID.

The local BID board on Wednesday approved the selection of Steve Brookes, who joined the Downtown Boston BID in March of 2011. He serves as the Boston BID's Clean & Hospitality Operations Director.

In that role, he oversees the team of the BID's 45+ Clean & Hospitality Ambassadors. He also continually communicates with city of Boston departments, property owners and managers, students, visitors and more to provide services to the BID's 34-block area.

Before working for the Boston BID, he was the operations manager for the American Hospitality Academy in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He worked at the Waterfront Partnership, as well as Downtown Santa Monica, Inc.

He attended and graduated from Elon University in North Carolina.

The hiring is subject to working out a contract with him.

Gordon Stalans, chairman of the BID finance committee, said $130,000-$135,000 was set aside in the overall budget for the post. He said the salary would be in the $100,000-$110,000 range.

The board would also provide moving expenses and pay for a trip for him and his family to check out Chattanooga.

The board wants him in place by early March to interview finalists for the vendor that will be in charge of carrying out the various BID programs, including cleaning, litter pickup, graffiti removal, landscaping and downtown ambassador programs.

There were 46 candidates that were narrowed to nine by a consulting firm. There were five finalists who were interviewed.

The consulting firm said Mr. Brookes was the unanimous top choice and he received rave reviews from his references.
