James “Ron” Ronald Rogers, age 83, a life-long resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away Monday, March 23, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Ron was the son of the late James and Edna Walker Rogers. He was also preceded in death by his son, Keith Rogers, in 1987, and his sister, Jeanne Cawood.

Ron graduated from Bradley Central High School in 1955 where he played football. He was an honorable mention as an All-American Player and went on to play college football at North West Mississippi College. He was a long-time member of North Cleveland Baptist Church where he was very active in the David Varnell’s Men’s Sunday School Class. He retired from the United States Postal Service with over 36 years of service as a rural mail carrier. After his retirement he owned and operated Cars and Classics.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joy Leek Rogers; his son, Kirk Rogers (Bethany); his daughter, Kathy Rogers (Tom); his grandchildren, Kailey Montz, Joshua and Jacob Rogers, Hunter Rogers, Tanner Sweatman and Samantha Blair Rogers; his great-grandchildren, Cooper and Madelyn Montz; his sister, Barbara Clowers; along with sister-in-law, Debbie Penney; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will have a private graveside service at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating.

A Remembrance of Life Service and visitation for family and friends will be held at North Cleveland Baptist Church at a later date. The times and details will be announced at a later date.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Ron’s memory to Bradley Bears Athletics and or Hospice of Chattanooga.
