Lawanda Cherelene Whitener Williams
Lawanda Cherelene Whitener Williams, age 69, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2020.
She was born on Oct. 27, 1950 to the late Rufus Whitener and Lucille Wofford Whitener. Lawanda was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and was a graduate of Dalton High School Class of 1968.
She was preceded by her parents, husband, Joseph Lamar Williams; sisters, Maxaine Binns, Ruth Ann Kemp, Mary Helen King; and brothers, Robert “Sonny” Whitener, Thomas McArthur Whitener, and Larry Gleason Whitener.
Survivors are her loving daughter, Christy Williams and Michael Thomas of Dalton, Ga.; one stepdaughter, Stephanie (Danver) Atwater of LaFayette, Ga.; grandchildren, Jalen Storey, Pashen Love and Vennie Reed; two great-grandsons, Zayden Storey and Khy’rei Joseph; sister, Cathy Cummings of Dalton, Ga.; brothers-in-law, James Williams and Elbert Hinton of Chattanooga, Tn.; sisters-in-law, Bessie Williams, Edith Rice of Beaumont Texas, and Alice Williams of Chattanooga; special niece, Shelva Savage of Memphis, Tn.; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives; special friend, Peggy Mitchell; and other friends.

A homegoing service will be on Saturday, July 18, at 1 p.m. at the Chapel with Pastor Edward Hoggs, officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 17, from 6-7 p.m. and her remains will lie in state on Friday at the funeral home after noon until the funeral hour.
Interment will be at West Hill Cemetery.
