In Monday high school cross country action, the Ooltewah boys and Silverdale girls won the 4th annual Rabbit Valley Run at East Hamilton.
On the boys side, top runners from Ooltewah and Collegedale Academy set a strong pace through the first ascent of Hurricane Hill, and the top prize remained hotly contested throughout the two-loop, 5 kilometer course. In the end, Chance Underwood of Ooltewah finished first, breaking the course record by over half a minute.
Zane Marlow of Collegedale Academy finished five seconds behind. Silverdale's Gabe Placer never lost sight of the leaders and worked his way into third place by the end.
Boys team action featured strong team running. Ooltewah won, buoyed by four top ten individuals. Runners-up Arts & Sciences placed two pairs of runners within the top ten, while third place Collegedale Academy placed their second through fifth runners in a pack from the 15th spot. Silverdale was not far behind, and East Hamilton rounded out the team results. Grace Baptist Academy brought individual runners, with their top boys entrant placing 11th.
On the girls side, Ooltewah's Jaxon Thurman bested the rest of the field by almost a minute, breaking the girls course record by a similar spread. Grace's Olivia Truelove placed second, followed shortly thereafter by Silverdale's Savannah Inman in what was often a close battle. Additional girls ran strong races in the pack, with seven girls clocking times that broke the previous course record.
Silverdale's girls team scored at the top, followed by Collegedale Academy. Schools with incomplete girls teams were Ooltewah (1st place for their top girl), Grace (2nd place for their top), CSAS (6th place for their top), and East Hamilton (7th place for their top).
