Margaret Harthcock Varnell
Margaret Harthcock Varnell, 97, a resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021 in a Collegedale health care facility.
Mrs. Varnell was born in Clarksdale, Ms. and she was the daughter of the late Thelma and Martin Harthcock. Her husband, Dr. Gilbert A. Varnell; son, Tommy Varnell; one sister and three brothers also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Varnell was a homemaker and was considered at great cook. She was very outgoing, never met a stranger and touched many lives. She was a true southern lady and enjoyed working in her flower garden. She was known for her roses! Mrs. Varnell was a long time member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church where she served in most of the lay positions with the church, including the first female to be president of the Board of Trustees. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family and church was her life!
Survivors include sons, William A. "Bill" Varnell (companion, Kathy Cecil), Cleveland, Dr. Robert M. Varnell (Dee O. Varnell), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
The celebration of her life will be conducted for the family at a later date.
