Red Bank Has A Great Recycling Center

  • Tuesday, February 23, 2021

Thank you Red Bank for your wonderful little drop off center. Upon moving back to the area after being gone for 30 years, I was delighted to find your clean, well run, recycling facility with separate bins for different items.

As someone who ran an honest, transparent, recycling program decades ago, I am very concerned by the number of dirty, non transparent programs that are so common today.  Mixing different type recyclables together is a very bad idea. I applaud what you are doing, running a clean drop off with separate bins for separate items.

One suggestion, I would encourage you to rethink your plastic bin. Do you really have markets for all those different type plastics? Do you have documentation of those markets? I wish all recycling programs made it their mission to run programs that reflect respect for transparency, recycling workers’ safety, the recycling commodity markets, and Mother Earth.

Red Bank is headed in the right direction with their current drop off. With a little education, planning and citizen involvement Red Bank drop off could become a national model, outshining the most progressive programs in the country.
