Some Chattanooga homeless will be housed in two local hotels.
Brent Goldberg, the mayor's chief of staff, said 50 rooms will be used for up to 90 days.
Cost is up to $200,000, and is to be covered by federal COVID-19 stimulus funds.
City officials said, "The goal of this reimbursable expenditure is to prevent the spread of COVID among the homeless population by providing living arrangements that do not place people in close proximity.
"All monies being spent to house people affected by homelessness are eligible for reimbursement out of federal COVID funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
"In total, the city has spent $119,968.20 on hotel rooms and has the authority to spend an additional $236,717.86 in reimbursable dollars.
"The two hotels selected during the bid process are The Chatt Inn on East 23rd Street and the Super 8 hotel on Birmingham Highway. The least expensive rooms will be filled first."
