Talented Woodworker Loved Decorating For The Holidays

Sammy Joe Austin, 83, of Rossville, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

 

Mr. Austin was born in Whitwell, Tn., but lived the majority of his life in Rossville, Ga. He was very talented with wood working, could build and repair anything, and absolutely loved decorating the house exterior for holidays.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mona H. “Mickey” Austin; his parents, Lowell Austin and Ruth Austin, four brothers, Jimmy, Ray Sr, Bruce and Recie Sr, four sisters,  Bobbie Camp, Lois Kilgore, Mary Don Sims and Jan Camp, and his grandson, Zachory Ellis.

 

Survivors include his seven children, Vickey Soares, Cheri Harness (Marvin), Curt Camp (Gail), Michele Leath (Greg), Diane Wilson (Mark), Sonya Ellis (Scottie), and Valerie Jones; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Johnny Austin (MaryLou), and several nieces and nephews.

 

Graveside services will be held Thursday, Sept. 16, at 10 a.m., at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.
