Owner Of Suzanne’s Suitcase, Was Active At East Brainerd Church of Christ

Freda “Sue” Davis, age 85, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2023 in Chattanooga, Tennessee after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

Sue Davis was born in Monroe, Oklahoma to Sylvanus Frederic Paxson and Susan Lucinda on July 26, 1937. She married Glenn Davis on August 21, 1959 in Monroe, Oklahoma.

She graduated from Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas in 1958. Following college, she taught high school English in Happy, Texas. She then moved to Abilene, Texas where she was employed by Herald of Truth, Christian Chronicle newspaper, and Christian Woman magazine. Following this, she was the secretary to the president of Lubbock Christian College. Next, she lived in Brazil for three years and then relocated to Cookeville, Tennessee where she worked for the University Christian Student Center (UCSC).

In the 1980’s, she and her family moved to Abilene,Texas where she was employed by Junior Achievement and then served as the Executive director or the local Alzheimer’s Association. She had a passion for assisting caregivers and educating the public about Alzheimer’s. In 2022, Chattanooga, Tennessee became her home and she created Suzanne’s Suitcase, a business sewing children’s dresses.

Sue was a member of East Brainerd Church of Christ. She was known for her deep love of the Lord, her family, and her friends. She and her husband Glenn set a beautiful example of a committed and strong marriage. She enjoyed travel, reading and cooking. She was an active member of the East Brainerd Bookclub Sisters. She lived a life of hospitality and service and will be remembered for her gentle and quiet spirit.

Sue is preceded in death by Fred Paxson, Susan Paxson, Maxine Paxson Timmerman, Norman Paxson, Sylvan Paxson, Faye Paxson Hager, Suzanne Davis Bittenbinder, James Paxson, and Peggy Paxson Bacon.

Sue is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Glenn Davis, her daughter, Lanette Davis Young (Will), Tyler Young, Connor Young and Ashley Young, and her son-in-law John Bittenbinder. She is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and great nieces and nephews.

Donations of books to the children’s library at East Brainerd Church of Christ would also be appreciated.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to our devoted caregivers, Amedisys Hospice Care, and Morning Pointe of East Hamilton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dudley Chancey officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East with Will Young, Connor Young, Tyler Young, John Bittembinder, Delane Davis, and Joe Pope serving as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Norma Clark, Rex Davis, Pat Dwyer, Matt Glass, Cathy Glass, Sharon Narey, Laura Ratke, Rick Timmerman, and Sherla Winter.
