Rhett Allen Chapple, Jr.
Rhett Allen Chapple, Jr., 48, passed away on February 1, 2023, in Chattanooga.
He was born on Sept. 26, 1974, to Rhett Allen Chapple, Sr. and Barbara Chapple Garrett. Rhett attended Howard High School and earned his GED from Chattanooga State Community College. He was self-employed as a landscaper.
Rhett had many talents - music, drawing, writing poetry, writing and composing his own songs to name a few, at one time he enjoyed playing the French horn and listening to music. His drawing ability was a gift and talent that he shared with his mother.
He enjoyed and took pride in working with his father in his father's landscaping business. He loved his little brother and took care of him throughout college. In his childhood, he would play and teach his younger siblings and cousins how to play card games. These card games included Knuckles and 52 Cards Pick-up. He would play Knuckles with them, leaving their knuckles hurting for days. His cousin would be excited to play 52 Cards Pick-up until she found out the game consisted of him throwing the cards up in the air and telling her she had to pick them up. (She wanted to cry.) He had a playful spirit, but also looked out for his siblings and cousins.
Rhett was the first-born grandson and nephew. The family coined him to be his Aunt Linda's favorite, with whom he shared a close bond.
Rhett was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Katie Tucker; maternal grandfather, Jerry Shell; paternal grandmother; Orma Cross; paternal grandfather, Willie Earl Cross; maternal great-grandparents, Navol and Thelma Stakley; paternal aunt, Joyce Chapple; paternal uncle, Ronald Chapple; maternal aunt, Virgin Person (affectionately known as Grandmother); cousin, Billy Lebron Barson.
He leaves to cherish precious memories, his son, Keanu Johnson; granddaughter, Malani Johnson, Nashville; mother, Barbara Chapple Garrett; father, Rhett Chapple, Sr. both of Chattanooga; brother, Reco Chapple of Atlanta; two sisters, Rhonda (Taurus) Moore of Chattanooga, and Sheba Chapple of Chattanooga; aunts, Mary (affectionately called Aunt Linda) Elijah Cameron, Jr., of Chattanooga and Rajaa (Hammad) El-Ameen of Chattanooga; uncles, Russell O’Neal, Tupelo, Ms., Terry Payton, Greenville SC, John Chapple, Jr., and David Cross both of Chattanooga; great uncles, Alonzo Brown of Chattanooga and Lonnie Person of Roanoke, Al.; nephews, Reco Dickens, Jonquell Connors, and Malik Dickens all of Chattanooga; nieces, Savanna Moore and Veronica Chapple both of Chattanooga; cousins, Sharalyn (Eddie) Potlow, Pontiac, Mi., Shan (Audrelle) Brown, Nashville Janethia (Talley) Caldwell, Walter Clayton, III, Kelly Clayton, Tamekia (Freddie) Raines, Phillip Foster, Marcy Foster, Danielle Foster, all of Chattanooga; fiancée, Robietein Watkins; a host of other relatives and friends.
Public viewing will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13, followed by a 3 p.m. Celebration of Life service in the Chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 423 622-9995.
