Glenda Pelfrey
Glenda Marlene Pelfrey, age 88 of Evensville Mountain, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at her home.
She was born in Sunbright, Tn., on July 2, 1934, the daughter of the late Walter and Bertha (York) Hays. Glenda’s mother was a cousin of Sgt. Alvin York, the much-decorated World War I Army soldier from Tennessee. She was also preceded in death in 2021 by her husband of 68 years, Harley Pelfrey, Sr., and her siblings, Maxine (Albert) Hammons, Paul Hays, and Lee (Wanda) Hays.
Glenda was raised in Sunbright and then Evensville, Tn. She graduated from Rhea Central High School in 1953, married Harley, moved to Michigan to raise her sons, and retired back to Evensville Mountain in 2007. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Hastings OES #7.
Glenda is survived by her two sons, Harley Cecil (Susanne) Pelfrey, Jr. of Evensville Mountain and Billy Joe (Cintia Finkler) Pelfrey of Clarksville, Mi.; her five grandsons, Maxwell (Hannah) Pelfrey of Sigourney, Ia., Mitchell (Pauline Cushman) Pelfrey of Bagdad, Az., Paul (Amber) Pelfrey of Yucca, Az., Brock Pelfrey of Evensville Mountain, and Brett Pelfrey at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Ia.; and her sister-in-law, Cecillie Pelfrey, wife of the late Robert Pelfrey of Dayton.
Funeral services for Glenda will be in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, March 22, at noon with Rev. Von Dunn officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Pierce Cemetery in Evensville.
