Harold Marcum
Harold Anthony Marcum of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, died after a brave struggle with numerous illnesses on November 1, 2024, at his home with his wife Sue by his side. He had celebrated his 90th birthday the previous day. Harold was also known as Tony by his family and Knoxville classmates and as Hal by Sue and her family and friends.
He was born and raised in Knoxville, and graduated from Bearden High School in 1952, received his B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee in 1962, and was a graduate of the School of Banking of the South at LSU. In 1962, he moved to Rossville, to accept a position at American National Bank in Chattanooga. During his tenure at the bank, he also served as an instructor for the American Institute of Banking and director of Robert Morris Associates’ Southern Chapter. He retired from SunTrust Bank as senior vice-president of loan review after 40 years of service.
He was a life-long lover of music and favored the guitar, which he played, and passed on that love to his sons. He was a master at solving crossword puzzles, loved NASCAR races, and was a huge Vols fan his entire life.
He was predeceased by his father, Harold T. Marcum (Chief Mark Little Bear), his mother, Nola Juanita Lambert Ezell, his step-father, Paul Ezell, and his half-sister, Patricia Ann Ezell.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Sue Baker Marcum, and his sons, Ed (Lisa) Marcum and Derek Marcum (Joni Simcoe).
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace, on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 1:30 p.m. Interment of Harold’s ashes will be at Edgewood Cemetery in Knoxville, at a later date for family only.
