Allene Orr Hitt
Allene Orr Hitt, 100, of Dalton, Georgia, peacefully departed this life on Monday, January 13, 2024, at her beloved home.
Born on August 24, 1924, in Gainesville, Georgia, Allene was the cherished daughter of the late Anderson and Nora Henry Orr. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Crawford Lee “Buck” Hitt; her sister and brother-in-law, Adelle and Clyde Puckett; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Alton F. and Bonnie Orr, W.C. and Maudine Orr, Ivans C. and Pat Orr, and Bonnie Gene Orr.
A proud graduate of Oakwood High School, Allene’s journey led her to Dalton in 1952 when her husband transferred with the Georgia State Patrol. Soon after, she became a faithful server at the renowned Oakwood Café, where she dedicated over fifty years to her work. Her customers were more than patrons—they became family, drawn to her warmth, quick wit, and enduring grace.
A woman of deep faith and unwavering devotion, Allene was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1964. Her strong character, independent spirit, and love for her family made her a true southern lady of class and compassion.
Allene is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Maurice Moody of Tunnel Hill, GA; her adoring grandchildren, Reece and Jenise Moody, LeeAnn Moody, and Zach and Amy Moody; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Kyra and Jake Prock, and Abby and Brooks Moody. A special sister-in-law, Farris Orr of Sugar Hill, GA; She is also remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews.
The family will celebrate Allene's remarkable life on Saturday, Jan, 18, at 4 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel, with Reverend Ash McEuen officiating. She will be laid to rest at Tunnel Hill Cemetery, with Chuck Baugh, Maurice Moody, Reece Moody, Zach Moody, and Todd Orr honored as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel beginning at 2 p.m. until the service hour.
