Joe Weeks Jumper passed away peacefully at his home in Red Bank, Tennessee, on Saturday, January 18, 2025.

Born and raised in Chattanooga, Joe spent his entire life in the area, leaving an enduring legacy of creativity, kindness, and community spirit. A proud graduate of Baylor School (Class of 1978). As a Baylor student, he developed many lifelong friendships. He was a standout athlete who played football and basketball, earning recognition as a member of the All-City football team in 1977, earning him one of his many nicknames, “All-City”. His time at Baylor laid the foundation for his lifelong love of teamwork and camaraderie.

Joe continued his education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he became an enthusiastic Kappa Sigma fraternity member. During college, he wrote, choreographed, and directed award-winning Carnacus skits, developing his love of theater, dance, set design, and music. While at UT, he also made more lifelong friendships, further proving what his family always knew: “To know Joe was to love him.”

After college, Joe began his career in retail merchandising and design, ultimately leading him to open The Clay Pot in Riverview. As the owner of this cherished local business, Joe poured his heart into creating a space that reflected his boundless creativity and passion for turning his customers' visions into reality. The Clay Pot became more than just a store; it was a hub for inspiration and connection within the community he loved dearly. Spanning his 34 years of business, over one hundred Potters worked alongside Joe. They each brought dedication, heart, and a unique spirit to the business, becoming an integral part of Joe’s life and legacy. Joe and the Potters made magic happen. They brought joy through beautiful floral arrangements, festive holiday workshops, and fun summer mornings at Camp Joe Joe’s.

Joe’s vibrant personality extended far beyond his professional endeavors. He had a love for theater and found immense joy in spending time with family and friends. Known affectionately as "everyone's biggest cheerleader", Joe had an extraordinary ability to uplift those around him with his warmth, enthusiasm, and unwavering support. He could find beauty, art, and humor in even the most challenging situations.

Joe was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Ann Weeks Jumper, and his father, James Calhoun Jumper, both of Red Bank.

Joe leaves behind his sister, Mary Jane Hooton (Mark Hooton), and two brothers, Cal Jumper and Jay Jumper (Dawn Jumper). Joe held a special place in the lives of his beloved nieces and nephews: Suzanne Jumper (Bill Lutmer), Amy Jumper, J. Cal Jumper (Emmie), Hannah Wilson (Alex Wilson), Colton Jumper (Kacey), and Will Jumper. Joe also leaves four great-nieces and nephews: Hazel Lutmer, Wren Lutmer, Georgia Grace Wilson, and Rowe Wilson.

In addition to his family, countless friends will forever treasure their memories of Joe’s kindness, encouragement, and zest for life.

Joe’s legacy is one of creativity, compassion, and unyielding positivity—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in The Baylor School Chapel at 2:30 on Saturday, January 25th. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:30 in the Chapel. A reception will follow in the Worsham Arena.
