Swinerton is conducting a $4.5 million renovation of T-Mobile’s Chattanooga call center. Construction is currently underway at the 13,161-square-foot facility and is slated to be completed in June. The project aims to create a high-quality, functional workspace for the telecommunication company’s 936 employees.
“At Swinerton, we know the importance of a workplace that addresses employee needs and sets them up for success,” said Katayoon Alavian, director of special projects, Swinerton’s Atlanta division. “Our expert crews have delivered commercial interior builds for some of the nation’s top firms across countless commercial markets, including telecommunications. Building high quality environments fosters creativity, collaboration and overall wellbeing. This new project calls upon our expertise and creativity to deliver a fully customized space for T-Mobile’s high performing team.”
Navigating a technically complex environment, the project team for this single-story customer experience center must also preserve a functional workspace throughout the construction process, ensuring minimal disruptions to daily operations.
The renovation scope includes:
Upgrading the security desk and surrounding area with new doors, millwork, flooring and ceiling. Transforming underutilized space into a mother’s room, wellness room and additional restroom.
Adding two restrooms and upgrading an existing restroom for all-gender use.
Installing audio/visual equipment and a security system featuring video monitoring.
Upgrading the lobby with new front doors, lighting, ceiling, furniture and branding elements.
Improving the cafeteria and full-service kitchen by expanding the back-of-house, upgrading finishes and installing new culinary and ventilation equipment.
Adding new furniture, grills, fans and lounge area to the outdoor patio.
Installing two parking lot EV chargers.
Swinerton is serving as the general contractor and plans to self-perform the patio’s brushed stainless steel canopy as well as the installation of drywall and specialty ceilings, including the Turf Plaid baffles over the café stage. The facility is designed by Kansas City, Kan.-based Perspective Architecture + Design. The T-Mobile call center will continue to be operational throughout construction, calling for overnight work schedules that returns the workspace to operational-ready condition each day. Minimal onsite storage necessitates well-designed coordination and scheduling between vendors and subcontractors.
The project comes on the heels of the completion of another T-Mobile renovation. Last year, Swinerton provided general contracting services for a 9,060-square-foot call center in Augusta, Ga. The $1.3 million project, intended to support the provider’s growing team, included the renovation of a 560-square-foot theater, a 2,700-square-foot corridor with custom lighting and paint, a 5,800-square-foot outdoor kitchen with tables and a firepit as well as painting the building’s exterior. Acoustical systems, a new architectural element, custom paint and finishes and branding elements were also included.
T-Mobile is supported by Swinerton’s National Accounts Group that provides national clients with a single point-of-contact for streamlined project delivery across the country. To date, Swinerton has successfully completed 48 projects for T-Mobile, with 10 additional projects currently underway.
