Tuesday night's district quarterfinal game between St. Andrew’s-Sewanee and Silverdale was an uneven pairing from the start, with SBA easily taking the win 68-31 over a smaller-than-usual SAS team. Down half their bench including at least three key players, Sewanee fought valiantly but could not overcome Silverdale’s offense which kept hitting threes like they were child’s play. This gave SBA the opportunity to play most of their bench, with 15 players getting into the game, six of them scoring from behind the arc.

Elijah Stark was the high scorer for the night for the Mountain Lions with 11 points, and SBA starter Parker Holland scored a game high of 16 points despite not playing at all in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks’ Briggs Hoewischer was King of Threes for the night, scoring three of them in the first half, followed closely by Parker Holland and Sewanee’s Bryce Archambault who both scored two triples.

It is the end of a discouraging season for St. Andrew’s-Sewanee, and assistant coach Nick Ercole said, “It was disappointing to lose this way. Honestly, we were missing half our team so I feel like we couldn’t really complete at the level we wanted to.”

For their part, the Seahawks are looking forward to playing on Thursday against a tough Notre Dame team. They have lost twice to them this season, but the second time by only a slim margin of 6 points. Head Coach Slater Belew said of tonight’s game, “It was good to get a lot of guys in there. This is the first step of district tournament so it’s always nice to get a win. Not every game you get to play fifteen players.”

When asked about how he feels going into Thursday’s game, he said, “Every game from here on out is a tough game so we have to bring our A-game. I feel like we haven’t reached our full potential which is good, but also we need to get there quick because these games matter. It’s good that we didn’t peak early; there’s still opportunities, but some guys need to step up and I think they will.”

Silverdale senior Caleb Askew was proud of his team tonight, calling the win “a team effort.”

SBA Sophomore Luke Bowman, who had some good playing time tonight, was looking ahead to Thursday, “As we head into post season games and coming up to Notre Dame…we get home court advantage a little bit though so this is gonna help, and Notre Dame’s a great program so we’re gonna have to all lock in and play well together as a team and especially play a good defense.”

The Seahawks play Notre Dame at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday night, and the Lady Seahawks play just before them, playing Boyd at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in the DII-A East Region District 2-A Semi-finals. Both games will be held at Silverdale.
