Mary Ann Rennick
Mary Ann Rennick, a long-time resident of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, died on March 1, 2025, in Columbus, Georgia. She was 98.
Mary Ann was born on Dec. 25, 1926, to Harold Weber and Florence Linderman Weber of Pottstown, Pa. She graduated from Pottstown High and went on to Harcum Junior College in Bryn Mawr, Pa., graduating with a business degree. She had an older sister, Hazel Weber Rohrbach. The siblings could not have been more different. Hazel was prim, proper and quite the studious young lady who didn’t dare get her hands dirty. Then there’s Mary Ann. Book-smart in her own right, Mary Ann was happier riding bikes and playing baseball with the neighborhood kids until dark. If Mary Ann didn’t come home caked in dirt with a skinned-up knee or a few bruises, then she didn’t have fun! That love of dirt would serve her all through her life as she simply loved working in the yard, planting, watering and watching the fruits of her labor grow. She had quite the green thumb and won “Yard of the Month” several times. She was an impetus to neighbors to get out and improve their yards.
Mary Ann had other interests, such as bridge, golf and traveling. However, her main claim to fame was that she was one of a handful of women to get into the real estate business back in the late 1960s. It was not an easy time for women in real estate, but she held her own there, too, and won the respect of her male counterparts, just like when she played baseball. She joined the Herman Walldorf Company as a residential agent. She loved selling houses and buying them to “flip” years before flipping ever became popular. Outspoken as she was, she was elected president of an apartment complex that, with the help of a newly formed board, cleaned out illicit activities taking place and converted the apartments into beautiful condominiums. She retired selling real estate at 88 and “played” in the yard until 94.
Mary Ann is survived by her two children, William Howard (Chip) Rennick, Jr., (Jeanette), and Debbie Rennick Seeley. She has three grandchildren, Chandler Rennick, (Jamie Ann), Haley Rennick and Courtney Seeley Estes, (Jeremy). She also has four great-grandchildren; Pete and Theo Rennick and Kate and Laura Ruth Estes. She has many other nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be with family only at the Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church, on Lookout Mountain on April 12. Burial will be in the Columbarium at the church.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Columbus Hospice in Columbus, Ga., or The Gardens at Calvary Assisted Living in Columbus, Ga.
