Mildred Goldsmith Benefield
Mildred Goldsmith Benefield, 86, of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, in her home surrounded by her children.
Mildred was born on June 11, 1938, in Nashville, to her parents, Willie and Nellie Goldsmith. She was raised in Lakeview and was a lifelong resident of the North Georgia area. Mildred helped raise her siblings and helped run the family businesses in the early part of her life. Later in her life, she retired from Shaw Carpet Mills.
She was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, mother and grandmother to her family and a caring friend. Mildred was often the caregiver for many of her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Billy Goldsmith, JW Goldsmith, Joe Goldsmith, and Gary Goldsmith; and sister, Tricia Tilley.
Survivors include her son, Skip Benefield; daughters, Sondra Brannon (Richard) and Darinda Hicks; five grandchildren, BJ Benefield (Tiffany), Ace Brannon, Richie Terry (Lyndsay), Garrett Brannon, and Keely Griffin (Jennifer); four great-grandchildren, Colt, Kaelyn, Travis, Noah and one great-grandchild on the way; three great-great-grandchildren, Axel, Daxton, Blaize and one great-great-grandchild on the way; siblings, Debbie Evans (Larry), Bonnie Elkins (Tom), and Marty Goldsmith (Carol); and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p,m, on Thursday, March 20, in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home in Rossville. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens South in Rossville.

A visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, and Thursday, March 20, from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, Rossville.
