Former McCallie Lineman Okpokowuruk Inks With NY Giants

Ayanga Okpokowuruk, a former star McCallie School lineman, has signed with the New York Giants.

Okpokowuruk, whose hometown is Charlotte, went on from McCallie to play at Duke.

He was a four-year letterman at McCallie for Ralph Potter.

Coming out of high school, he was charted as the top defensive end in Tennessee and the 17th-best in the nation by Scout.com and ranked as the 16th-best weak side defensive end in the nation and the eighth-top overall prospect in Tennessee by Rivals.com

He was an all-region selection by Prep Star magazine and an all-state and all-city pick in 2004 after recording 39 tackles and five sacks as his McCallie team went 8-3 and advanced to the state playoff semifinals.

He recorded 30 tackles and four sacks while catching 12 passes for 210 yards and one touchdown his junior season.
