Police Blotter: Boyfriend Sets Off Woman's Car Alarm While She Is Out To Dinner With New Friend; North Chattanooga Woman Is In Shower When Intruder Walks Right In

Police interviewed a woman as a gas station on Lee Highway and were told that her boyfriend had  followed her to a dinner with a friend and began setting off the alarm on her car with the key she had given him. She said she confronted the boyfriend and asked for the key back, but he would not give it up. With the help of police, it was finally arranged that she got her key back and he was given the one she had to his place.

A man told police his computer was stolen from his unlocked car at 205 Broad St. while he and his girlfriend were in a movie theater. He described the computer as a really old Lenova. He claimed there were many other valuables (computers, money) in the car as well, but they were not stolen. Another theft from vehicle was reported at this same parking garage shortly before police were dispatched to this theft.

There was a pick pocket incident at the Cracker Barrel in Lookout Valley. The victim said she was exiting the restaurant when a black male in front of her was pretending to talk on the phone. He then stopped abruptly causing another black male to bump into the victim from behind. When that happened he was able to grab her wallet out of her purse. The victim quickly realized after she got into her vehicle what had happened, but the suspects were already gone. She canceled her cards and then was notified by her bank that her card was swiped for $800+ and then again for $400+ but both transactions were denied due to her canceling her cards.

Police reviewed video of a theft outside the Brainerd Walmart involving a man in a motorized handicap shopping cart. The camera video footage shows that around 3:06 p.m., a black male wearing a black toboggan and a brightly colored jacket with patches is seen leaving the Walmart in the cart. He drives straight to the parking lot in front of the garden section. This is the area where a woman had left her purse inside her shopping cart prior to driving off. The suspect drives up to the cart with the purse and is seen going through it. Next, the suspect drives out of the picture. Next, the suspect walks back to the purse, goes through it again, and walks off towards the CARTA bus. No other people come near the purse. Police obtained surveillance photos of the suspect.

Officers checked out suspicious activity at an apartment on E 5th Street. A woman said she believed that a Mr. Joel Davis was outside her apartment throwing rocks at her front door. However, there were no signs of any damage or evidence of this taking place. Police said they "are familiar with the party she was referring to and know that he has a twin brother with the exact same name. The only difference is their middle name so it was unclear of which twin she was referring to at this time. The party left the scene prior to police arrival."

A man who was interviewed on Brainerd Road told about his white 2004 Jeep Cherokee being taken by a woman he met on a mobile app dating site. He said she took off in his Jeep when he left her in the vehicle to go into a convenience store. The victim said he does not know her name and that she deleted her profile on the app (Tinder) and he cannot find her now. He said that according to her profile, her name was "Jessica" and she was blonde. The Jeep later turned up in Illinois after an officer made a traffic stop and recovered the vehicle

A woman living on Harper Street said she was in the shower when she heard a female say "hello" several times and then come in the bathroom. At that point the woman in the shower screamed and the unknown female said sorry and left the residence. She described the intruder as white, wearing a black jacket, gray pants, and carrying a black bag. The woman said she did leave the side door to the residence unlocked.

 A woman living on Kayla Circle said she thought she had won a big prize from Publishers Clearing House. She said she spoke with someone over the telephone named Mark Anderson, who told her that she had won and was going to be awarded a 2018 Lincoln and $950,000 if she sent in two money orders. She consulted with another woman, who agreed she would send in the money orders and be reimbursed when the first woman was awarded the prize money. She sent in a money order for $761.50 through the Walmart Moneygram program to a Damion Jones. The first woman had agreed with Mark Anderson over the phone that she was planning on sending the second money order the next morning "before realizing the fraudulent activity. Both parties indicated they would ask for the reimbursement and would not send money orders from unknown persons over the phone in the future."

At the Walmart on Cummings Highway, police were told that an older black man left the store with a cart full of items he had not paid for. An employee followed the suspect out of the store and observed him get in a gold SUV that appeared to be an older Toyota 4 Runner. After watching the security footage police observed the suspect place a pair of shoes, a pack of T-shirts, two cases of Coronas, two cases of Bud Light, two cases of Heinekens and a case of Coca Cola in his shopping cart and then leave the store. The employee said he could not identify the suspect, but knows that he is a regular in the store.

A resident of Navajo Drive said his 2017 VW Tiguan had been stolen from his house. The man said he regularly leaves the keys in the vehicle because multiple people use it. However, he said the only people authorized to use it are his father-in-law and his sister, and neither of them are using it right now. The man "also stated that he thinks someone else has been using it for several weeks now because he just got a notice that the vehicle was used in a reckless driving and evading incident several weeks ago, and he states it wasn't him driving at that time."
