U.S. Air Force Veteran Held Long Career In Journalism

Larry Headrick, 76, of East Brainerd, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 7, 2021.

 

A native of Ringgold, Larry has lived in the Chattanooga area most of his life.  He was a graduate of Ringgold High School. Larry earned an AA from Dalton Junior College, BA from University of Georgia, M.ED from University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and PhD from Covington Theological College.

 

Larry is an avid Georgia Football fan. He loved and taught Creative Writing and Photography. He spent most of his working career in journalism. He was a former member of the Chattanooga Photo Society and member of Silverdale Baptist Church. Larry served in the U.S. Air Force and is a decorated Vietnam veteran. 

 

He was preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses, Louise (Charles) Clark, Joe (Lawrence) Perry, Jimmy Headrick, William “Bill” (Katherine) Headrick, and Gene Headrick.

 

Survivors are his wife, Judy Poe Headrick; daughter Jessica (Derek) Armitage, McDonald, TN; son, Jonathan Headrick, Chattanooga; step-daughter, Kim (Stephen) Kipa, North Point, Fl.; sister, Carolyn Denton, Chattanooga; brother, Rev. Calvin (Joyce) Headrick, Knoxville; sister-in-law, Sandra Headrick, Tunnel Hill, Ga.; six grandchildren, Trent Pyrz, Brooklyn and Riley Headrick, Tomas and Anna Headrick and Robert Kipa; several nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 24, in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Mark Habermas officiating. Interment will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
