Baylor Swims To Ninth Place Finish At 2022 Southeastern Long Course Championships

Baylor's Anara Summers Named To SES Zone All-Star Team

On the weekend of July 16-19, 2022, over forty Baylor Swim Club athletes competed at the Southeastern Swimming Long Course Championships. Over 800 athletes from the states of Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida competed at the Huntsville Aquatic Center in Huntsville, AL. 

The Baylor Swim Club finished 9th overall out of 46 teams in the combined team scores with a total of 666 points.  Leading the way for the Aqua Raiders were some outstanding performances from Twelve-year-old Anara Summers and the Baylor 13-14 boys. 

Summers took the 11-12 girls Southeastern title in the 400-meter freestyle, placed second in the 50-meter butterfly, and finished third in the 200 freestyle and 200 IM.  Due to her performance, she was named a member of the 2022 Southeastern Age Group Zone Team.  She will attend the Southern Zone Age Group Championship meet (July 26-30) in Tupelo, MS as a member of the Southeastern Zone All-Star team.  Summers also broke her own Baylor Swim Club team records in the 200-meter freestyle, 400-meter freestyle, and 200-meter IM.

The Baylor Swim Club also had some outstanding performances from the 13-14 boys.  Maddox May swam to Southeastern titles in both the 800-meter (9:16.45) freestyle and the 1500-meter (17:31.82) freestyle.  

Nate Farnham finished with the Southeastern Championships in the 200-meter butterfly clocking a time of 2:19.10.  He also claimed second in third in both the 800 (9:25.64) and 1500-meter (17:59.05) freestyle events.  Thirteen-year-old Hayden Vicknair blasted a 1:01.76 to take third in the 100-meter butterfly.  His time of 1:01.76 is also a new Baylor Swim Club team record.

The previous record was 1:02.42 which was set back in 1998 by Chad Burgoyne.  He also finished third overall in the 50-meter butterfly. 

The boys 13-14 400-meter Medley Relay of Sheperd Sewell, Gavin Boggs, Hayden Vicknair, and Maddox May finished third overall in the event.

In the open senior events, Avery May claimed second with personal best times in both the 1500 (17:57.73) and 800-meter (9:23.95) freestyle events.  Luke Waldrep had an outstanding swim in the 800-meter (8:32.00) freestyle to take third overall in the event.  Finally, ten-year-old Lily Vicknair finished second in the 10 & Under 50-meter breaststroke swimming a new personal best time of 44.22.
