Claude Emory Roden, 95, of Ringgold, died on Monday, March 30, 2009, at his residence.

He was born January 29, 1914, in Section, Al. Mr. Roden was a member and Deacon at the Corinth Baptist Church in Macedonia, Al. Since moving to Ringgold in 1999 from the family farm in Alabama, he has attended Brainerd Baptist Church.

Mr. Roden was a 50-year member of the Section Masonic Lodge #565 F&AM and was Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. He owned and operated his own farm in Section, Al., since he was 17 years old and later was a security guard for the First National Bank of Scottsboro, Al.

Mr. Roden was preceded in death by his parents, Josh and Ola Britt Roden, sister, Edna Roden McKenzie; daughter-in-law, Linda Wheeler Roden; brothers-in-law, Frank Vandiver and Baker McKenzie; sister-in-law, Maxine Roden.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 72 years, Cleatie Harper Roden; sons and daughters-in-law, and Jimmy (Claudette) Roden, Wendell (Lori) Roden, and Madelyn Daniel, all of Ringgold, Kenneth (Tracie) Roden, Smyrna, Tn.; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila (Jimmy) Sampley, Murfreesboro, Tn.; grandchildren, Angela (Emmett) Camp, Ooltewah, Alan (Laura) Roden, Waterford, Virginia, Lisa Thomas, Chattanooga, Wendy (Chris) Williams, Ringgold, Megan Sampley, Lexington, Kentucky, Dustin Sampley, Murfreesboro, Kate Roden, Smyrna, Tn., Josh Roden, Ringgold, Sherry (Billy) Brindle, Calhoun, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Jonathan Camp, Ooltewah, Elizabeth and Caroline Roden, Waterford, Va., Cameron and Cade Williams, Ringgold; Blake Brindle and Meagan (Bart) Walraven, Calhoun, Ga., brother, Van Buren Roden, Chattanooga; sister, Martha Vandiver, Athens, Al.

A celebration of Mr. Roden’s life will be 2:30 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Shannon Williams and Rev. Robby Gallaty officiating. Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
