  • Tuesday, June 7, 2016

A state trooper who caused a fatal wreck in Marion County will not face criminal charges, NewsChannel 9 reported.

District Attorney Mike Taylor of Marion County said Trooper Clyde Reeves looked away prior to crashing into the rear of a motorcycle and then striking another vehicle. He said the trooper was not distracted by a phone or a radio, but "was just looking elsewhere than in front of him."

The incident happened April 23 when traffic had stalled at the crest of a bridge.

Motorcyclist Jim Garner was killed in the incident. Witnesses said he was wearing a helmet, but it could not be located after the wreck.

There is no word on whether Trooper Reeves will be disciplined by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
