Notre Dame High School trounced Concord Christian School 8-1 in the first round of region play on Tuesday night.

Notre Dame battered Concord Christian in the opening 20 minutes of the match scoring six goals in that span of time. Freshman Tori Soutuyo got the scoring started in the 5’ minute as she found the back of the net off of a cross from sophomore Kenzie Campbell.

Sophomore Riley Mroz combined with senior Sofia Dobson on the left side before chopping up her defender and curling her shot into the far corner in the 9’ minute.
Soutuyo found the back of the net for a second time as she scored off of a rebound in the 15’ minute.

Junior winger Sarah Moore got on the score sheet as she took a cross from Mroz off of her chest to then chip the rushing goalkeeper. Two minutes later the Mroz to Moore connection yielded another goal as Mroz’s cross found Moore at the back post to make it 5-0.

Campbell got a goal of her own as she made a run down the right side before blasting her shot into the left netting in the 20’ minute.

As the first half ticked down senior Grace Hill scored a deep free kick to make it 7-0 going into the break. Notre Dame registered 20 shots in the first half and did not allow Concord Christian a first half shot.

Six minutes into the second half Maddie Eagle scored a banger from nearly 30 yards out. Her first time effort soared over the Lion’s keeper to make it 8-0. Concord Christian caught the Irish napping in the 65’ as forward Jacey Kate Jennings found the back of the net from about 18 yards out.

“It is a ‘win the game and move on’ type of thing,” Notre Dame Head Coach Jim Schermerhorn said. “Every game we’re getting better. We are playing the way you want to play and they’re working really well together - I can’t complain.”

Notre Dame will face Christian Academy of Knoxville in the region semifinal on Thursday.
