Scott Edwin Long Collier, 65, of Chattanooga, was united with his Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, November 7, 2019, after a three-year journey through ALS.
Scott’s life was a gift to his family and many friends. They will remember him as a companion, mentor, advocate, servant, inspiration and passionate disciple of Christ.
Scott was born on July 31, 1954, in Camden, NJ to Robert Edwin Collier and Sonia Bridget Long Collier. He married his wife, Carol, in 1974, before moving from New Jersey to Lookout Mountain to attend Covenant College, where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies and Missions.
Scott was a steadfast leader in the church, and he served for over a decade as an elder at New City Fellowship and New City East Lake. For the past six years, he was a joyful member and servant at Calvary Chapel Chattanooga.
Scott’s greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. He loved being with his children and grandchildren and delighted in who they are. He was a faithful husband who enjoyed adventuring with his wife – exploring area hiking trails and taking road trips to the mountains and coast.
His life was filled with deep joy living out his faith and sharing the strength it gave him, even in his illness. He brought wisdom and courage to the lives of so many people, and the warmth of his presence will continue to occupy their hearts until they see him again.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Sonia Collier.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; his children, Cathy, Ethan, Aaron, Suzanne and Emily; his children-in-law, Fernando, Mary, Laurie and Roland; his grandchildren, Caleb, Liam, Sam, Julia, May and Lennon; his father, Robert; his siblings David and Dorothy; his brothers and sisters in-law, and his many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at Calvary Chapel. A memorial service and burial will follow. The burial will be at Chattanooga Memorial Park, 501 Memorial Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37415.
The family requests memorial gifts given in Scott’s honor to Calvary Chapel Chattanooga’s Adoption Fund.
Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
