Betty June Mathis Payne
Betty June Mathis Payne, age 80, a resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed into her new life after a lengthy illness.
Betty was born in Benton, Tn. and she was the daughter of the late Gladys Shelton Mathis and Reverend A. L. Mathis. Her husband of 41 years, Franklin Eugene Payne; her two infant daughters, Eugena and Gloria Payne; her sister, Linda Faye Mathis; and her niece, Rita Swaggerty also preceded her in death.
Betty was a talented singer and she wrote many gospel songs. Her goal in life was to do God's work and live for him.
Survivors include her children, twin sons, Mitchell Payne and his wife Missy of Old Fort and Michael Payne; daughters, Teresa Payne, Brenda Venegas and her husband Tony all of Cleveland, Nadine Hurd and her husband Tim of Seymour, Indiana and Christine Herron and her husband Charles of Old Fort; her grandsons, Matthew Anglen of Seymour, Indiana, David LaDuke of Cleveland, Jonathon Mantooth of Old Fort, Tony Venegas; her granddaughter, Baleigh Venegas; her great-grandson, Eli LaDuke; her sister, Gearldine Bryson; and her niece, Karen Malone and her husband Kenneth all of Cleveland.
The Remembrance of Life Graveside Service will be conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Old Ocoee (Four Mile) Cemetery in Polk County with, Pastor Josh Taylor officiating. David LaDuke, Tony Venegas III, Tony Venegas IV, Jason Taylor, Tim Taylor and Dennis Wilson will serve as casket bearers.
