Frances Grant

Frances L. Grant, 76, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021 in a local hospital.

She was born on April 8, 1944, in Birmingham, Al., as the oldest of seven children. As the elder, she had plenty of time to hone her leadership skills, which lead her to become the strong, independent woman we have come to remember her as. Frances lived a wonderful life filled with joy as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was known as Mom, Granny, and GG, by those who loved her and knew her best. She was a “mama bear” to the children in her life, which made her very protective of them and their well-being.  In her younger days she loved to exercise. She was a member of the local bowling and softball leagues, where she could let her competitive nature soar. Her determination drove her to be the best at whatever she put her mind to. One goal that she set for herself was to get a perfect score on her driving test, which she accomplished, of course. Frances enjoyed singing, dancing, painting, and watching movies. She also loved to read, which she instilled in her great-granddaughter, Lexi, at an incredibly young age. She was always there to help anyone in need; opening her home and her heart to many generations, providing a safe and nurturing environment that allowed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to thrive.  She worked in retail for many years and loved being able to help customers feel their best as they shopped for something new. She had wonderful fashion sense and a love for shopping. She also worked in the insurance industry, where she retired years ago.  Her stories and memories will live on in those who she loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Romeo Grant.

Frances leaves behind her loving children, Micheal (Bonita) Grant, Cassandra (Sam) Grant, Eric Grant, and Roderick (Pam) Grant; grandchildren, Shunta (Cornelius) Mildenberger, Alexzandria Gray (Lexie), Bradley Grant, Corey Grant, Eric Grant, II, Brittany Grant, Romeo Grant, II, and Roderick Grant, II; great-grandchildren, A’Lexius Zackery, Javonte Pullom, Heaven Grant, Emani Grant, Jariaha Grant, Zara Bayes. Siblings include Samuel (Beverly) Cosley, Orzella (Earl) Cox, Flanders (Sidney) Gandy, Russell, Dianna (Charles) Alexander, Veronica (Dennis) Dale Walters, and Aletha Dean Jordan; nieces and nephews, Veronica Rose, Leann Cosley, Shonda Sowell, Tamela Chaney, Brian Chaney, Nicole Alexander, Johnita Ware, Jackie Alexander Sewe, Jason Cosley, Ryan Cosley, Mark Waters, and Reginald Alexander; a host of cousins and cherished family and friends.

Frances will lie in state on Friday, Jan. 29, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. A family graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Brother John Tucker giving words of comfort.

Frances requested no flowers be sent.
