U.S. Navy Veteran Worked With NASA On Apollo Moon Missions

Frederick W. Shirley, 83 of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, passed away at his home on June 29, 2021.

 

He was born in Chattanooga on October 17, 1937 to the late Cecil E. and Hazel H. Shirley. He was a 1955 graduate of Lakeview High School and earned a B.S. degree in Physics from the University of Chattanooga. He served as a radarman in the U.S. Navy. His career included work with NASA on several of the Apollo moon missions. He was also a specialist in intelligence gathering aboard the USNS Observation Island for the Department of Defense.

 

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou Collins Shirley, brother, Thomas, cousins, nephews, Thomas and Brandon, four grandnieces; special loving friends, Barbara, Yolanda, and Michael York and Juanita Bice.
