Ronnie "Doug" Ramsey

Ronnie “Doug” Ramsey, passed away on July 16, 2021 at the age of 68.

He was the son of Leonard Ramsey and Callie (Ramsey) Grindstaff, who predeceased him in death as well as a brother, Willie “Ed” Ramsey.

He lived in Whitwell, Tn. with his wife, Jeannine, who lovingly nursed him during his battle with colon cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Jeannine Ramsey; three children, Tracie (Billy) Kilgore, Ronnie Ramsey, both of Whitwell, Tn., Kristy (Mike) West of Dunlap; and two stepsons, Jonathan Taylor of Houston, TX and Jason Hudgens of Crossville, Tn.  Doug was “Pa” to Bailey (Bailey) Kilgore, Tyler and Logan Kilgore, Ramsey and Jaylyn West, Blake and Lacie Ramsey as well as three great-granddaughters, Gracelyn, Blakelyn and Adalyn Kilgore of Dunlap, TN. He is also survived by sisters, Carrie (Cecil) Davis of Sequatchie, Almetta (William) Perkins of Whitwell, Kathy (Hal) Chance of South Pittsburg, and Mary Ramsey of Jasper.

For the past several years, Doug worked at “the dump” in Sequatchie.  People would bring him all kinds of things to keep or fix before going in the dumpster.  Not surprisingly, his garage was filled with these treasures where he could be found listening to the oldies, tinkering, or relaxing.  Doug was a house/business painter by trade. He was a perfectionist with his painting, always taking pride in a job well done.  In addition to painting, Doug could often be found helping a friend or in his garage that we considered his sanctuary.

“Our Daddy was our fixer of all things.  Whether it was a water heater, roof, or a messed-up paint job from his impatient daughter. No matter what needed fixing, our Daddy was the first one we called. If Daddy could not fix it, he knew someone that could.”

Our father was there for the birth of his grandchildren.  The smile and gleam in his eyes when he held each one for the first time is and will always be one of our fondest memories. Knowing the phone will no longer ring with a cheerful voice on the other end is almost too much to bare. Daddy affectionately had nicknames for each of his children, “Sweetheart,” “Kris,” “Law-Dog.” He was never short of silly stories with added effects about a fond memory we all shared.

Jeannine and Ronnie shared a unique bond.  Both used the other to finish a thought or story. Husband and wife, friends and forever connected by the love both shared for one another.  Since October, Jeannine has attended to every need and seeking treatments to kill or slow the spread of cancer from Doug’s body.

Our hearts are broken by the death of our husband, Daddy, Pa and friend.  We take solace knowing that he is no longer suffering from the cancer that quickly took over his already frail body.  The conversations and precious moments spent these last few weeks will forever live in our hearts.
